Millenial.
You call me Millenial, like it's a slur
like I'm a child, like it's a dirty word
but I'm not a young man
in 2000 I was already a teen
so don't talk down to me
I know what condescention means
I was born in the 80's
my heroes were underdogs
now you'll never understand
where I got my values from
they all fought oppression
stood up for the marginalised
seemingly always outnumbered
but still toppling Empires
I learned from these stories
how to stand up for what's right
so no matter how you feel
I know I'm on the right side
Just because you're older doesn't mean that you are wise
and just because you read it doesn't mean you weren't told lies
every single generation's not like those before
you'd do well to remember that before you close the door
my heroes were many
some flashing across the starts
clashing with authority
others Clashing with their guitars
but they fought for the same thing
freedom and equality
the importance of these things
wasn't lost on a younger me
it wasn't political
just about what's right and wrong
it was'nt until much later
I'd write it all down in song
so if we're being retrospective
I wasn't propagandised
but understanding the choice I made
I know I'm on the right side
Just because you're older doesn't mean that you are wise
and just because you read it doesn't mean you weren't told lies
every single generation's not like those before
you'd do well to remember that before you close the door
Just because it's always been that way doesn't mean that it's alright
Just because you're comfortable doesn't mean you shouldn't fight
it's never going to be too late to choose to change your mind
if we listen to each other then this world can be more kind
