Algorithm & Blues
Feeling like a commodity
Is sneaking up inside of me
When every third thing that I see
Is showing me a luxury
It's something I don't really need
But it's built for one of my core beliefs
Cos they know everything about me
And will exploit it all for greed
The only barrier to learning
Everything about my life
Is how much you're prepared to pay
A company that has it all their own way
They know all your secrets
Maybe even before you do
And now we realise
We've got the algorithm and blues
I always have been Ad-averse
Now we're stripped down to our daily worth
Compartmentalised from birth
Convinced to spend every penny we earn
It's media without the social
as the scales tip more towards the total
adverts they can show to folk who'll
tell them all they need to know
about everything they say and do
and think and believe so believe it too
they'll sell you to the highest bid
your hopes and dreams to make a few quid
They know all your secrets
Maybe even before you do
And now we realise
We've got the algorithm and blues
(Instrumental)
now listen out for the scary part
we all know that they've got no heart
and more money than could fill the arc
I wouldn't even know where to start
But it's with your data analysed
they can tailor their favourite lies
Your thought process get compromised
And before you know you're propagandised
You'll vote for what they tell you to
You think everyone thinks like you
It's ok to mistrust the news
As long as that mistrust goes their way too
They know all your secrets
Maybe even before you do
And now we realise
They've got the algorithm
And they'll use it to divide society
and undermine democracy
without which we cannot be free
As they all wring their hands with glee, 'cos
They know all your secrets
Maybe even before you do
And now we realise
We've got the algorithm and blues
